Château de la Basmaignée Wedding Photography
Château de la Basmaignée is one of France's most enchanting exclusive-use châteaux for couples who want their wedding to unfold over days rather than hours. Set in private grounds in the peaceful Mayenne countryside of northwestern France, it offers UK couples the full "escape to the château" experience — formal gardens, a tranquil lake and miles of open landscape, all yours for the week. As award-winning destination wedding photographers, Nick and Aimie Wild of Beziique have travelled across Europe to document weddings here, and the slow, whimsical rhythm of a château week is exactly the kind of story their documentary style was made to tell.
About the venue
Chateau de la Basmaignée is a beautifully restored French chateau set in private grounds in the Mayenne region of northwestern France. Exclusive-use for the week, the chateau and its outbuildings sleep the core wedding party, with formal gardens, a lake and miles of surrounding countryside.
Ceremonies usually take place in the gardens overlooking the chateau, with the reception in the converted barn or under canopies on the lawn. The whole feel is the loose, slow, "escape to the chateau" version of a destination wedding — multiple days, multiple events, no rush.

Why we love Chateau de la Basmaignée
A week at a French chateau gives photography room to breathe. Welcome drinks the day before, the wedding itself, then a relaxed brunch the day after — you end up with a body of work that tells the story of a holiday with the people you love, not just one event.
We photographed Lauren and Josh's whimsical white wedding here and the gallery still feels like one of our most distinctive France pieces.

Our approach to destination wedding photography
At Beziique we believe great wedding photography goes far beyond technical skill. It is about creating unforgettable experiences and timeless, beautiful pieces of art that capture every moment of your day.
We shoot in a relaxed, documentary style that lets the day breathe — candid moments, real emotion and the quiet details that make your celebration yours. Across a full château week we move gently in the background, photographing the welcome dinner, the morning preparations, the ceremony in the gardens and the long, lamp-lit evenings, so that nothing is staged and nothing is missed. You can see how that approach translates into finished galleries across our wider portfolio.
If a private château in the French countryside speaks to you, it's worth exploring our other European estates too. Couples drawn to Basmaignée often also love Château Rigaud in the Dordogne and Livernano Estate in Tuscany, and you can browse the full collection on our wedding venues page.

How soon will we get our wedding photos?
You'll receive a set of sneak-peek images within the first days after your wedding, so you have something beautiful to share while the memories are fresh. Your full, hand-edited gallery is then delivered in approximately 6–10 weeks. Every image is individually edited in our signature documentary style — we never cut corners on the part that lasts a lifetime.
Do you travel to France for weddings?
Yes — France is one of our favourite destinations to photograph, and we travel there regularly for château and countryside weddings. We're based between Cyprus and the UK, so reaching the Mayenne region or anywhere else in France is straightforward, and we'll usually arrive a day or two ahead to settle in and scout the light at your venue. Travel for European weddings is simple to arrange; just tell us your dates and we'll confirm everything in your quote, with no hidden surprises.
What's your photography style?
Our style is documentary and emotional — we tell the story of your day as it genuinely happens rather than directing it. That means candid laughter, unguarded glances and the small details you'd otherwise forget, captured with an eye for natural light and beautiful composition. We stay in the background so you can be fully present with your guests, stepping in only for the relaxed couple portraits that give your gallery its quieter, romantic moments. The result is a body of work that feels like the day you actually lived, not a series of poses.
What makes Château de la Basmaignée special?
Château de la Basmaignée is a private, exclusive-use château tucked into the peaceful French countryside of Mayenne, and that seclusion is its magic. With the whole estate and its grounds yours for the week, your wedding becomes a slow, multi-day celebration rather than a single hurried event — welcome drinks the evening before, the ceremony in the gardens overlooking the château, the reception in the converted barn, and a leisurely brunch the morning after. The formal gardens, the lake and the surrounding farmland give endless natural backdrops, and the unhurried, "escape to the château" pace gives photography room to breathe. For couples who want a genuinely private, immersive French wedding among the people they love most, it's hard to beat.
